How to use the laws of physics to accelerate your career

How to use the laws of physics to accelerate your career

| Leadership

If we didn’t know the laws of physics, the world around us looks like a divine miracle. It’s the same in career development because sometimes we get offers and career opportunities without fully understanding the reasons for our success.

Do we have to know what makes such a miracle happen for it to happen? No, we might just get lucky. Do we need to know these patterns to perform other such miracles without waiting for a stroke of luck? Yes!

Lectera and the International Academy of Management are running a series of online meetings for those who want to transform their careers. What does this have to do with science? We live in a world that obeys the laws of physics, the laws of logic, and you can use these laws not only in everyday life and science but also to advance your career. You can find out how to do this in detail at the meeting "The Laws of Physics and Business." In this article, we'll talk about the most critical insights.

Don't let your brain get lazy

Don’t let your brain get lazy

We have neural connections in our heads, patterns of behaviour that are easiest for us to follow. That's why stereotypes so strongly influence us because the brain is always trying to save exertion. We like to act out of habit so that we don't have to waste effort figuring out each step. Nevertheless, this laziness forces us to use old inefficient algorithms and lose out to the competition.

Once we learn to ride a bike, we'll never unlearn it and forget how to do it. That's because once a neural connection has been formed, it's hard to break it. However, this phenomenon also has significant drawbacks. To avoid becoming a hostage to previous experience, you need to form new neural connections constantly. If we don't do this, we fall into the trap of stereotypes that prevent us from seeing new, better solutions.

Build your spaceport

Build your spaceport

The science base helps us to avoid falling into the trap of harmful stereotypes. Fundamental knowledge is the cosmodrome from which we can take off and achieve a higher level. Simultaneously, it's vital to update fundamental knowledge in different fields: physics, history, and law. Understanding fundamental laws saves us from making many mistakes. Firstly, it helps us get away from stereotypes and see the most effective solutions.

If we create new neural connections, we begin to see and think differently. For example, when we learn something new, we suddenly notice this 'new' everywhere. The whole point is that our brain has rearranged itself, new neural connections have formed, and we have become able to see things that have previously eluded us.

It takes a lot for all of us to "take off," but when we regularly build up our knowledge and turn it into our good habit, we "take off" autonomously. Once we've reached a new level, it is essential to find our dynamic equilibrium.

Dynamic equilibrium

Dynamic equilibrium

When a spaceship has entered the orbit of a planet, it no longer requires effort to keep it in orbit. Similarly, when you have built a stable system for your development, it will tend to reproduce itself, and you don't need to maintain it yourself. This state is called 'dynamic equilibrium'.

But to achieve "dynamic equilibrium" in your development system, you must first build this system. That is, you need to start training and choose its vector. To do this, you must analyse your current skills and knowledge, attitudes, emotional disposition, and existing social patterns. For instance, if you apply for a job in a company, you sell yourself and your skills to an HR specialist. If you are launching a business, you need to know your product, your audience, and the goals you want to achieve. Your training must build on an understanding of these things before you turn it into a stable and ongoing process.

A scientific approach to building your career will help take it to the top of your personal orbit. Once you get there, no event, thing or person in the world will make you plummet back to earth!
