Canterbury University Launches Free Online Courses
The University of Canterbury is joining the edX global online learning platform from November 2020 as a course author.
Beginning November 1, edX users will have access to courses on Volcanoes, Python, New Zealand, and Iceland, Mental Health, and Reading Correctly. In addition, the university plans to launch video courses on statistical analysis and design of smart cities. According to Catherine Moran, professor at the University of Canterbury, the partnership with edX will allow the institution to enter the international online education market.
The implementation of the programs in the online format was preceded by a long work process - Associate Professor of the Department of Volcanology, Ben Kennedy notes that the courses have been under development for approximately two years. Linguistics teacher, Jonathan Dunn is confident that free online programs will help prospective students at the University of Canterbury become better acquainted with their specialty in order to make the final decision on the choice of the direction of study.
