In Spain, there is going to be a national student strike against distance learning
On September 16, 17, and 18, the Spanish student union plans to hold a general student strike. Students protest online education.
The main demand of the organizers of the strike is a return to the classroom. They believe online learning has proven to be ineffective.
Representatives of the student union are sure that public education needs a major reform for in-person classes during the pandemic. First, students demand to expand the teaching staff in all colleges, as well as to increase the number of classrooms. This is needed to make study groups smaller and ensure social distancing in classrooms. In addition, the student union demands that everybody involved in the educational process will be provided with antiseptics and medical masks to prevent infections.
These requirements are included in the petition that students will send to the Spanish Minister of Education. In the petition, they also require additional funding for the regions so that they could organize classrooms during the pandemic.
