International students will be able to get a US student visa even if their universities switch to online education
In early July, the US government directed nonimmigrant international students to leave the country if their colleges switched to online education.
20 universities in 20 states have filed lawsuits to block the initiative. The authorities have recently issued new recommendations in the form of questions and answers. The demands of the universities were satisfied to a certain degree:
- Current international students will be able to obtain a US visa, even if their universities partially or fully switch to online education, new students will not have this opportunity;
- The US Department of State will decide on visa issuance to new students enrolled in some online classes;
- Students will not face deportation if their educational institutions switch to online learning in the middle of the school year.
