Instagram will add an absolutely new way of recording videos in stories. It will be a tool called 'Clips'. However, the feature appears new only at first glance - and only for Mark Zuckerberg. What's more, this feature was the initial reason for the skyrocketing success of TikTok, the fastest-growing app for creating short-form mobile videos.

Instagram

Clips will allow users to post videos created by connecting several separately recorded fragments. Users will also be able to overlay videos with music and control playback speed. TikTok offers exactly the same video editing functionality - users can take advantage of the app's features to create various types of content, ranging from comedy sketches to song covers.

In the past, Mark Zuckerberg has already experimented with another TikTok clone, called Lasso. This app did not take off, so Facebook adjusted their strategy with the idea of introducing new functionality to an app that is already popular. As you may recall, Instagram initially copied the format of their stories feature from Snapchat. This feature was an overnight hit, and a total of 500 million users have watched stories as of January 2019.
