Students from India protest against offline exams
Students at Punjab University, located on the India-Pakistan border, have held a protest rally.
They were demanding to take semester exams online, arguing that the university had moved all classes online and then announced the need to take exams in person.
Activists from two student organisations told local media that the university either refused to hold important lectures in the spring semester or moved them to online platforms. The university management then confronted the students with the fact that the final exams would be held in person. Dissatisfied with this, students marched through the campus holding up homemade banners. Protest organisers are angry that those who don't achieve the required grades will have no choice but to pay to retake their exams.
The university management have already withdrawn the document stating that the exams will be held in physical classrooms. The students, however, have not yet been informed about the new exam format. Furthermore, the university plans to start the autumn semester offline, doing away with "remote learning" altogether.
