Universities risk losing competitiveness without an AI strategy
Many universities, including in the UK, risk falling behind competitors due to the lack of a clear strategy for implementing artificial intelligence.
This affects both the quality of student training and graduate employability, as well as the institutions' positions in global rankings.
According to QS World University Rankings, Oxford, Cambridge, and more than 50 other universities have dropped in the rankings amid concerns over weakened innovation capacity, investment levels, and academic freedom in the UK higher education system.
Employers are increasingly demanding AI skills from graduates, yet most higher education programs provide insufficient practical training. Outdated IT infrastructure remains a problem: universities are being urged to upgrade systems and train faculty to work with AI.
