Google develops a distance learning platform for Indian school children
The world-renowned company Google has begun an active partnership with the Indian state of Maharashtra to create an accessible digital classroom platform for millions of students.
The corporation will provide twenty-three million students and teachers with free access to the latest educational resources.
After recent negotiations, Google has announced that it plans to invest $10 billion into Indian's educational system, which, to date, has already recorded four hundred and sixty thousand cases of Covid19 infection, and according to statistics, Maharashtra is the hardest-hit state in the country. Like other states, Maharashtra closed schools back in March this year. Consequently, it comes as no surprise that within the first two days of the Google project's existence, over fifty thousand users were registered participants.
Maharashtra's education minister said the collaboration with Google will help find the best technical solutions to facilitate online learning for about one hundred and ninety thousand schools. The global goal of the project is also to transform Maharashtra into one of the most progressive Indian states in the field of remote learning.
Moreover, Google has already opened up access to a wide range of useful educational services, as well as test and video conferencing platforms for both teachers and students. Google has also recently promised to add the Marathi language, which is spoken by the majority of Maharashtra residents.
Google began working with teachers in India shortly after the quarantine began. In the summer, the company said that it is already at the stage of cooperation with government agencies that manage educational institutions. Google has also offered its academic programmes to more than a million teachers in twenty-two schools across the country.
