Six hundred thousand school children in Mumbai are unable to access online education

According to the latest data, about 50% of students, more than sixty thousand cannot afford to buy for themselves an Android smartphone. Because of this, they are also unable to attend online classes. Another twenty thousand students do not participate in remote lessons due to the lack of access to high-speed Internet. Furthermore, since all school activities are now online, schools cannot connect with more than two thousand students.

Despite the gradual lifting of lockdown restrictions, schools in Mumbai do not plan to switch to a hybrid learning format. Educational officials hope that the situation will change soon, and schools can return to their usual schedule. In their opinion, the transfer of classes to the online format is a blow not only to schoolchildren from low-income families but also to students who do not do well in their studies.
